As an avid OSRS player with over 2,500 Spindel kills under my belt, I‘ve developed an array of strategies for taking down this formidable foe efficiently. Spindel presents a dynamic four phase fight demanding razor sharp reflexes, tactical situational adjustments, and the physical stats to endure his pummeling assaults.
In this guide, I‘ll share comprehensive tips from my extensive experience defeating Spindel to help you master this boss for big loot returns. Follow these methods, gear up accordingly, and Spindel‘s coveted pet companion could soon be accompanying your own adventures!
Navigating the Pay-To-Slay Payouts
Before battling Spindel himself, you must pay a access fee that diminishes after each fight:
- 1st Entry: 50,000 coins
- 2nd Entry: 40,000 coins
- 3rd Entry: 30,000 coins
- 4th Entry: 20,000 coins
- 5th+ Entry: Free
I clearly remember sighing handing over 450K to Katrine upon reaching Spindel‘s lair those first harrowing attempts. But earning back millions in rare loots and effectively infinite free attempts thereafter soothes that early GP sting!
Once I finished all five unlock payments, the freedom to grind Spindel indefinitely makes trying for rare drops like his iconic spider leg piece and beloved pet companion incredibly thrilling over time.
To DUO or Solo? – Weighing Team Tactics
When I first challenged Spindel, having a partner along granted some safety in numbers when spiderlings swarmed unexpectedly. However, as my strategies sharpened, solo trips became preferable for focusing damage on Spindel directly rather than splitting kills.
Solo also enables manipulating lair positioning, using chinchompas and AoE attacks more haphazardly since friendly fire concerns vanish. Ultimately the choice depends on your skills and style. Now let‘s examine Spindel‘s phases and approaches to counter them.
Spindel Boss Fight Phases and Mechanics
Spindel alternates between melee and magic combat every 25% health lost. Mastering his attack patterns in each phase is key to defeating him consistently without burning through tons of expensive restorative items.
Melee Phases: A Dance of Steel and Spiders
Right from his initial emergence, Spindel skitters forth menacingly preparing a vicious slash attack. I immediately activate Protect from Melee while moving to max range near the staircase.
Phase 1: Fending Off Spiderlings
His early melee strikes deal up to 25 damage, making prayer essential to avoid quick KOs. Every 10 seconds Spindel also spawns groups of 5-6 spiderlings with only 10 HP each. But their venom and flanking overwhelms quickly if left unchecked!
I found chinchompas extremely effective for swiftly wiping out spiderling mobs before focusing attacks back on Spindel. If needing to conserve ammo, explosive potions also demolish the tiny swarmers rapidly when gathered. Melee spinning weapons like the dragon halberd hit multiple adjacent targets too.
The key is clearing spidersFAST, as their venom rapidly drains stats, reducing offensive effectiveness tremendously. I chomp through prayer doses rapidly switching between Protect from Melee and Protect from Missiles accordingly.
Phase 2: The Spinarak Onslaught!
Upon depleting his first phase HP bar, Spindel teleports away briefly before skittering back even more fiercely for round 2! His max melee hit now reaches 30, so keeping prayer active remains essential.
However, the true Phase 2 threat emerges when Spindel summons Spinaraks – imposing lv-160 spider bosses acting as his reinforcements. Fighting back to back bosses demands intense focus!
The Spinaraks bind you with entangling webs, then pile damage alongside Spindel and swarms of spiderlings. I prioritize destroying webs first using my trusty dragon scimitar before switching prayers rapidly against the two boss‘ assault.
Their combined offense tears through even maxed defense stats quickly! Protect from Melee blocks Spindel‘s slashes, while Protect from Ranged defends against the Spinarak‘s venomous spit. The key is reacting instantly to the bosses‘ alternating attacks through quick flicks.
Once securing breathing room from the spider horde, I unleash my Abyssal tentacle weapon special attack on Spindel directly for huge damage, while periodically throwing chinchompas when spiderlings converge.
This frantic melee phase tests even veteran PvM reflexes to the extreme. But the real threat emerges when Spindel turns his magic prowess against you next…
Magic Phases: Restoring Stats While Avoiding Lava Dips
Upon reaching 50% and 10% health, Spindel teleports away to gear up for a mystical bombardment. This signals swapping your prayers to Protect from Magic and dose up on super restore potions before his spells sap your strength further.
Phase 1: Dodging Spindel‘s Stat-Draining Spells
Spindel initially focuses fire directly on you, as volcanic eruptions summoned splatter green magic attacks followed by spreading lava pools around the chamber.
Spindel‘s magic strikes here each deal up to 20 damage, with his lava pools ticking for constant 10s if touched. Despite the lower max hit compared to his melee strikes, the stat reductions are far more punishing.
Getting hit just 4 times drained my Strength from 99 to 75, drastically hindering damage output. I learned quickly to dodge while drinking super restores proactively. Bring 8 doses at a minimum, 12 if less agile!
Phase 2: The Relentless Onslaught
Below 10 HP, Spindel unleashes his full magical arsenal! He rapidly cycles between magic, ranged and melee spells aimed in all directions. This tests even master level prayer flicking to the extreme!
There were multiple times where three simultaneous unique projectiles slammed me after just slightly mistiming a prayer swap. Each magic attack deals up to 25 damage now, ringing health faster than I could brew.
I found the best strategy here is bursting down Spindel ASAP while flicking prayers precisely against whatever attack style he uses next. Camping any single protection leaves you vulnerable to his alternating barrage.
With skill and the proper gear though, this climatic magic phase pummeling culminates with Spindel collapsing! Let‘s review optimal setups to maintain strong offense against Spindel while withstanding his punishment.
Gear Loadouts & Combat Style Comparison – Crushing Spindel in Style
Proper gearing makes ALL the difference when battling intense bosses like Spindel. Here‘s a breakdown of what armaments I‘ve tested successfully:
Melee Offense – My Preferred Playstyle
My go-to setup leveraging 99 Attack and Strength centers around raw melee damage:
- Helmet: Slayer helm (i) for accuracy and strength bonus
- Chest: Bandos chestplate for melee defense
- Legs: Verac‘s plateskirt prayer bonus
- Boots: Primordial boots for damage boost
- Gloves: Ferocious gloves for gold DPS edge
- Ammo: Rune throwing axes to quickly cut back spiderlings
- Shield: Dragonfire ward for protective magic blocking
- Primary Weapons:
- Abyssal tentacle – huge primary DPS
- Dragon warhammer – crush spiders with special
- Dragon dagger (p++) – swift special attack if swarmed
- Cape: Max cape for well rounded combat perks
This setup lets me leverage tons of strength for fast Phase 1 and 2 kills. I also swap in a dragon halberd on phase transitions to clear spiders rapidly. With Protect from Melee on, Spindel only occasionally splashes through, so I can purely focus damage output rather than constant defense.
Ranged DPS – Viable But Riskier Alternative
I also experimented quite a bit with heavy Ranged setups utilizing the rapid attack speed and venomous punishment of the:
- Toxic blowpipe with Dragon darts – insanely fast DPS potential
Supplementing this with max Ranged strength gear like Anguish necklace, Armadyl armor, and the Pegasian boots acquits itself nicely. The blowpipe tears through spiderlings quickly, allowing concentrating venom strikes directly on Spindel too.
However, losing the high melee Strength of Bandos does lower max potential damage against Spindel‘s 100 defense level. And being caught in MD of Spindel even once while wielding the fragile blowpipe generally leads to a quick explosive KO!
Why I Prefer Solo Melee After 500+ Attempts
Ultimately after 513 Spindel kills and many gear experiments, I‘ve determined solo melee using the core setup detailed above yields the smoothest, strongest boss clears for my stats and money making goals. Here‘s a quick pro/con evaluation:
Solo Melee Pros:
- Maximizes damage per phase to progress quickly before overwhelms
- Flexibility to lure boss/spinaraks around chamber freely with resets
- Chinchompa spiderling clearing without friendly fire concerns
- Enables escape stairs for emergency tactical retreat if needed
- Consistent success once mastered boss patterns
Ranged Cons:
- Often insufficient DPS for Phase 2 execution under duress
- High risk of explosions from botched switches or flanked shots
- Restricted chinning due to venom splash damage on partners
- Failed partner coordination cascades problems quickly
Everyone needs to assess their own skills and goals when selecting the optimal combat style against bosses though. Magic Barraging Spindel may prove very effective too!
Now let‘s review the miscellaneous supplies and minimum stat benchmarks I recommend before battling this tricky eight-legged adversary.
Inventory & Stats – Equipping Yourself for Victory
Succeeding at OSRS PvM requires bringing the right supplementary equipment and having character levels to back it up. Be sure to grab items that counteract Spindel‘s mechanics for smooth flowing kills.
What to Bring Along
- Prayer potions – 12 doses minimum, 16 if low Prayer level
- Saradomin brews – 5-10 depending on available food combos
- Super restore potions – 8 minimum for stat rebuilding
- Food – 10-16 high healing options like Mantas
- Anti-venom potions – Cures spiderling poison infections
- Teleport tablet – Emergency escape if stuff hits the fan!
- Loot bag – Claims all items if killed, preserves pet chance too
Gearing specifically to counter Spindel‘s effects makes repeatedly farming him very sustainable long term. Let‘s talk character stats next.
Level Requirements for Viability
Based on using solo melee myself primarily, I recommend these viable minimum stats and levels before battling Spindel:
- Attack, Strength: 90+ (Higher is obviously better but this lets you hit consistently)
- Defense: 85+ helps to avoid constant smackdown from Spindel and spider hits mid-pray messups
- Hitpoints: 90+ gives buffer to survive spider piled hits
- Ranged: 75+ needed for efficient spiderling clean up during melee phases
- Magic: 85+ useful for occasional entangle freezes on Spinaraks or healing
- Prayer: 70 minimum, but 80+ strongly recommended for duration if learning or multiple mistakes
Meeting these offensive and defensive levels prevents Spindel and friendlies from shredding you too quickly during the alternating attack phases.
Now let‘s get to that glorious golden loot you‘ve been striving for!
Rewards & Rare Drops – Slaying Spindel Pays Off Big League
Beyond his steady assortment of regular seeds, ores and alchables averaging ~30K per kill, Spindel has epic signature item drops further sweetening victory.
Spindel‘s Signature Gear Drops – Best in Slot Potential
His rare drops hold tremendous value for sale or personal best-in-slot use:
- Spindel‘s leg – Iconic piece fused into the BIS Spindel facemask slayer helm. Current price: 12.5M GP each.
- Spider leg – Create Nightmare gloves with these. Valued at 6M GP apiece presently.
- Spider carcass – Highly useful material for combining several high-level armors with a whopping 7M GP value.
- Uncut onyx – Extremely precious gemstone for crafting onyx jewelry. Sells for 3.2M GP currently.
In 543 Spindel kills I was blessed with 2 Spindel leg pieces and a spider carcass drop. Combined value over 26M GP – not bad! Getting either of the two signature leg pieces results in a surge of adrenaline every time.
Pet and Minion Loot Motivators
With unique loot secured, the lasting carrots dangling before me now are Spindel‘s beloved skittering pet and the brutal Kalphite boss unlockable after 750 kills.
Receiving Spindel as a loyal minion would be the absolute cherry on top after grinding so many spider leg parts already. At just shy of 1 in 4,000 drop rate, I know lady luck will bless me with baby Spindel eventually at this rate!
Until then, I‘ll keep jamming out to my "Spider Stomping" playlist while turning spiders into GP and working toward unveiling the secret Kalphite area too. Every 100 kills grants increased loot table access there from what fellow OSRS slayer maters have told me. Exciting possibilities await!
For now though, I wanted to provide this extensive guide so you all can avoid nasty venomous bites while enjoying smug satisfaction seeing Spindel collapse just like I do nearly daily now! If there‘s anything else veterans or newcomers need to know, don‘t hesitate to ask.
Now get grinding out there fellow gaze darters – may the RNG smiles down upon us all with a friendly new spider sidekick soon enough! Let‘s snag these spider legs and unique drops together.
