In a world where sorcerers and curses battle with supernatural powers, one ordinary human rose to the top of Japan‘s jujutsu hierarchy through sheer talent alone. Disowned by his family for lacking any cursed energy, Toji Fushiguro devoted his life to developing superhuman physical abilities that allow him to dominate even the most formidable sorcerers and spirits.
Defiance of the Jujutsu World‘s Norms
The jujutsu society judges power solely based on one‘s cursed energy and techniques. But Toji shatters these norms by reaching the pinnacle of strength with no energy at all. His intense training regimen involving near-death battles honed his body to its absolute limit.
As described in the fanbook, Toji‘s physique gives him abilities matching the disaster curses – the embodiment of humanity‘s greatest fears. He possesses terrifying speed, astounding reflexes, immense durability, instant regeneration, and monstrous strength. This allows Toji to overwhelm enemies before they can even cast jujutsu.
And with the inverted spear of heaven, Toji becomes an absolute menace. Originating from Angel, this divine weapon nullifies any curse it touches, as explained by Gojo. So even the strongest barriers and guaranteed-hit techniques get neutralized when facing Toji, letting him blitz sorcerers effortlessly.
Overpowering the Strongest Sorcerers
Toji‘s capabilities are best demonstrated through his fights with the top sorcerers of the era. He first targeted Gojo Satoru – the undisputed strongest modern sorcerer whose Infinity makes him impossible to touch. As seen in Volume 0, Toji dodged point blank attacks from Gojo. His reflexes exceeded 24 FPS perception speed – faster than even most disasters. Using low grade curses to bait Gojo and cleverly avoiding his domain expansion, Toji pierced straight through Gojo‘s sternum with the inverted spear to claim victory.
In a second assassination attempt, Toji faced Geto Suguru and his army of 1000 curses. As shown in Hidden Inventory, Toji pulverized the endless hordes instantly with his bare hands, reducing them to mists of blood. According to Geto, each curse possessed strength comparable to Grade 1 sorcerers. So Toji easily massacring them puts his power well beyond that benchmark. Though Geto did manage to poison Toji leading him to retreat, their short bout already cemented Toji‘s status as the infamous ‘Sorcerer Killer‘.
Years later in Shibuya, Toji proved himself more powerful than even the fastest modern sorcerer – Naobito Zenin. As analyzed by Megumi, techniques and mobility were Naobito‘s forte. He moved faster than sound and possessed ‘Projection Sorcery‘ allowing teleportation and guaranteed hits. Yet Naobito stood no chance against Toji who instantly appeared behind him and smashed his skull in a single blow as seen in episode 21. This demonstrates Toji‘s combination of speed and power surpassing Naobito‘s.
Showcase of Peerless Talent Against Curses
Aside from demolishing sorcerers, Toji also flaunts his outrageous talent against the curses themselves. When Dagon assaulted Tokyo, Toji intervened and immediately bisected the Special Grade monster despite Dagon‘s immense size and disaster level regeneration. As explained by Geto, Toji‘s slash contained enough force to split apart even a goddess statue.
Similar displays of overwhelming power occurred against the Death Paintings. Toji casual blocked a flurry of attacks from Choso, a special grade with techniques that manipulate blood. He proceeds to blitz both Choso and Eso in the next panel even after they activate their trump card – their shared consciousness and coordination. And versus the mighty Mahito whose soul transfiguration works on Toji‘s soul itself, Toji still dominates their fight with perfect counter maneuvers.
The Lasting Impact of His Power
Years after his death, Toji‘s legend continues influencing jujutsu society. Modern sorcerers still shudder at his name, and preparation against non-sorcerers remain in curriculum due to Toji‘s actions. Satoru Gojo himself admits that Toji would have killed him if he knew about Hollow Purple.
More notably, Toji‘s sister faced discrimination just like him until his memory awakened her dormant binding vow. As analyzed by Megumi, witnessing Toji‘s power likely gave Maki some subconscious desire to achieve the same strength. This resulted in her slaughtering the entire Zenin clan upon reaching Toji‘s level. Such a phenonmenon perfectly encapsulates the fear and impact Toji‘s power commanded even towards his own clan.
With talent surpassing the limits of human physiology and skills to overpower even jujutsu‘s peak, Toji Fushiguro demonstrates how an ordinary human can stand at the apex of sorcerers and curses through effort alone. His strength remains unmatched by any non-sorcerer past or present. Indeed, modern society still feels the ripples of his peerless influence.
