Taskbar Not Working? 7 Ways to Fix It

If the taskbar does not work, it may be a system problem, but in most cases, too many tasks are running simultaneously, causing a freeze or resource manager crash. The taskbar may fail to function due to an incomplete update of the operating system. Corrupted user account files could also contribute to the freezing of your taskbar.


1. Restart Windows Explorer

Restarting the Windows Explorer clears the minor issues incurred, including an irresponsive taskbar. The following steps are to be followed:

Step 1: Open the Task Manager through Ctrl + Shift + ESC.

2. Cmd command to restart the resource manager

Step 1: Use the shortcut Win + R to open the Run Command, where you are to input a command.

Step 3: This will help restart the resource manager on your machine.

3. Re-register the taskbar

Step 1: Use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + ESC to open the Task Manager.

Step 2:  Click on File in the Menu Bar to run a new task.

Step 3: Enter PowerShell and run as Administrator by ticking the Create this task option.

4. Update system driver

Windows’ outdated system drivers or loopholes may also cause the Windows taskbar not to work. It is recommended to regularly update the drivers on your computer to avoid software complications.

7. Create a new user account

You could create a new user account on your computer and copy all the files in the previous account. You can create a new user account in Windows 10 through the following steps:

Step 1: Open the Control Panel application and Select the User Accounts and Family Safety.

Step 2: Select User Accounts, then click on the Add or Remove User Accounts link.

Step 3:  The Manage Accounts window appears, and you are to Click on the Create a New Account link.

Step 5: Input the account name you wish to have.

Step 6: Click on the Create Account button, then close the Control Panel application.
