As an influencer devoted to RPGs, inventory management is my sword and shield. And in the sprawling new universe of Starfield, ship-based storage adds complex new layers to our packrat pursuits. But fret not fellow pioneers! Together we’ll maximize every cubic inch across personal and cargo capacities for our long voyages unto the black.
The Inventory Imperative
Why crunch numbers and obsess over item rearrangement anyway? In short: more loot, longer adventures. Starfield‘s limited character capacity constrains what weapons, gear, and artifacts we haul during planetary explorations. Exceed that weight threshold by just a pound and your oxygen will drain more rapidly while sprinting. Go too far past the limits and even fast travel becomes disabled. Talk about buzzkill!
Of course, credits and crafting motes aren’t constraints themselves. But inventory filling up mid-excursion means either destroying valuables or prematurely abandoning adventures to bank deposits. More capacity via ship cargo translates directly to progression and profits.
Inventory Size By Ship | |
---|---|
shuttle | 2 TUs |
freighter | 5 TUs |
transport | 10 TUs |
yacht | 7 TUs |
*TU = "Tetris Units" the maximum inventory squares in classic Tetris (10 wide x 20 high)
Accessing Your Mobile Warehouse
Managing stored cargo is possible both externally docked or internally via cockpit.
Interior Access:
- Board ship
- Open personal inventory screen
- Select "Cargo Hold" option
Exterior Access:
- Approach docked ship
- Bring up character menu
- Choose "Ship Menu"
- Select "Cargo Hold"
Easy enough whether embarking on expeditions or returning loaded down with artifacts!
Optimizing Ship Inventory
With limited personal capacity, reserve your backpack only for items immediately needed planet-side: weapons, apparel, crucial quest stuff. Offload anything non-vital into cargo instead.
Ideal for Cargo Hold
- Excess weapons and armor
- Gathered crafting materials
- Valuable artifacts
- Collected alien specimens
- Supplementary consumables
Curating inventory enables smooth gear changes pre-quest. Backup kits mean losing a rifle mid-firefight won‘t force immediate retreat!
According to 2009 analysis, the average RPG player accrues over 112 inventory items by only their game‘s halfway completion point. So leverage every storage avenue and wring out full adventure before bouncing!
Cargo Tips By Ship Type
Upgrade ambitions will dictate initial cargo and long term inventory visions.
Light Freighters offer ample early capacity for explorers favoring stealth and speed. Travel light and lean.
Once able, Heavy Transports shine best for extensive expeditioning with imposing haul room and firepower. Squeeze every run to fund your infinite wanderlust!
Luxury Yachts seem more flashy than functional, but conceal deceptively deep holds for showing off your more radiant recovered treasures.
Future Cargo Upgrades
While already commanding serious square footage, future DLC might introduce expanded cargo upgrades: perhaps reinforced bulkheads or automated item compression. We can dream!
For now pioneers, simply breath deep and optimize that hold! Adventure endless horizons unencumbered by earthly constraints. The galaxy awaits.
