As one of the oldest skills in Gielinor, woodcutting holds a special place in the hearts of RuneScape players. From humble beginnings chopping regular trees as a noob to controlling the forces of nature and crystallizing acadia trees at level 120, woodcutting offers a wide range of training methods and meaningful upgrades.
In this guide, I‘ll share extensive wisdom gathered across my own journey to 120 woodcutting. We‘ll cover everything you need to power level woodcutting, from the fastest xp methods requiring high intensity and GP, to the most laidback ways to chip away at the skill over time.
Top Xp Methods for Fast Levelling
These methods offer the highest woodcutting xp rates in the game, at the cost of requiring high skill levels, quest completions and consumable expenses:
Crystallized Acadia Trees (200K-850K xp/hr)
Chopping acadia trees while the Crystallize spell is active is hands-down the fastest woodcutting xp in the game in 2022, with rates up to 850k/hr at level 120. However, this intensity comes at a steep cost.
- Requirements:
- Level 94 Woodcutting for acadia trees
- Completion of The Light Within quest
- Level 80 Prayer for Crystallise spell
- Level 88 Magic to cast Crystallize
- Dragon hatchet / Crystal hatchet equipped
- High focus and click intensity
- Process:
- Have lunars spellbook active
- Cast Crystallize on acadia tree
- Equip dragon/crystal hatchet
- Chop the tree as fast as possible until depleted
- Use Sign/Porter charges to send logs to bank
- Repeat spellcasting and chopping
- Gp Costs:
- 500-900k gp/hr for runes + prayer renewal potions
- At 850k xp/hr = ~0.6 gp/xp
- Xp Rates:
- Level 99: Up to 550k xp/hr
- Level 120: Over 850k xp/hr
This method becomes viable from level 94 woodcutting onwards and reaches peak rates at level 120. Given the high intensity and high costs, Crystallize acadia trees are best suited to wealthy players chasing the fastest xp possible to 120.
Chopping Curly Roots (400-600K Firemaking & Woodcutting xp/hr)
An alternative intense training option comes in the form of chopping curly roots inside the Gorajo resource dungeon. This activity provides equal xp in both Firemaking and Woodcutting, making it efficient for ironmen or players chasing 200M all.
- Requirements:
- Partial completion of player-owned dungeon
- High click intensity
- Minimum level 75 Dungeoneering
- Process:
- Access resource dungeon
- Navigate to appropriate cloud by skill level
- Click on thefloating roots to chop them
- Use porters to bank root logs
- Light logs with tinderbox for firemaking xp
- Xp Rates:
- 400-500K xp/hr at level 99
- Over 600K possible at higher levels
- Costs: Up to ~5M gp/hr for charges/supplies
Curly roots can provide over 1M combined xp, but managing inventory and banking can be intensive. They remain the premier method for dual firemaking + woodcutting training between levels 75 and 200M.
Divine Trees (Up to 390K xp/hr)
Creating divine trees with the Divination skill offers a happy medium between the intense methods above and the afk options below. Divine trees give the best woodcutting xp rates while still being reasonably afkable.
- Requirements:
- Level 101 Divination to make u3 trees
- Any woodcutting level
- Process:
- Cast divine trees spell
- Choose u3 option
- Chop logs as they respawn
- Light logs
- Deposit in nearby box
- Xp Rates:
- Normal mode: Up to 200k xp/hr
- Hard mode: Up to 390k xp/hr
- Costs:
- ~2.5M gp/hr from divine charges
- Very reasonable ~6 gp/xp
Divine trees strike a great balance, offering rates nearly as good as crystallize acadia but with way lower inputs. Their only downside is needing 101 divination, making them more mid/late game.
Most AFK Woodcutting Training
When you can‘t give the game your full attention, these methods provide excellent afk woodcutting xp:
Ivy (52K-200K xp/hr)
With no requirements and automatic banking, ivy remains unmatched in afk woodcutting convenience. Between the Ardougne and Prifddinas patches, ivy offers perpetual woodcutting with minimal inputs.

Crystal Trees (180K-240K+ xp/hr)
For higher leveled players, crystal trees are the premiere afk woodcutting training option. Lasting a full 30 minutes once tapped open, crystal trees require the lowest effort of any method while still providing upwards of 200k xp/hr.

Hatchets
More than any other slot, your hatchet choice impacts woodcutting speed. These are the grades from worst to best:

For example, when cutting normal trees:
- Bronze: 25 logs/hr

When including cost, dragon hatchets offer the best performance for the price. But the highest tier crystal hatchet provides a sizable improvement.
