How to Fix "Roblox Does Not Support Admin Installation"

As an avid Roblox gamer, nothing is more annoying than getting the error "Roblox does not support admin installation" when trying to launch those immersive 3D worlds.

Trust me, I‘ve been there! In this guide, I‘ll share all the insider tricks and proven solutions I‘ve learned for resolving this admin issue and getting back to the fun.

Why Does This Happen?

Let‘s first demystify what causes the dreaded "Roblox does not support admin installation" message to appear.

At a technical level, it stems from a conflict between how you initially installed Roblox and the permissions it now needs to run properly.

Specifically, if you do any of the following it can trigger this error:

  • Install or run the Roblox player while signed into an admin account
  • Manually enable "Run as administrator" for Roblox after installing it normally
  • Install Roblox in one account, then move the program files to another with different admin rights

In all these cases, Roblox was either set up to work with admin access or had that access granted later on.

So when you try to launch the game normally without admin rights, Roblox freaks out – resulting in this error.

It‘s extremely common – Reddit and Roblox forums are filled with people encountering it. Part of the reason it happens so much is…

Roblox‘s user base has absolutely exploded over 300% during the pandemic as kids and teens spend more time gaming at home.

All these new users installing Roblox in different ways makes the admin issue more prevalent.

But don‘t panic – with the right fixes, you‘ll be back to building, roleplaying, and battling in Roblox in no time.

Fix #1: Disable "Run As Administrator"

If Roblox prompts for admin rights whenever you launch the game, disabling that setting can get things running smoothly again.

Here‘s how to turn off "Run as admin":

  1. Open Windows search and search for "Roblox Player". Right click the desktop app and select "Open file location".
  2. Right click the RobloxPlayer.exe file and choose "Properties".
  3. Click the Compatibility tab.
  4. Uncheck the box next to "Run this program as an administrator" if enabled.
  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Disabling Run as Admin in Roblox compatibility settings

Now Roblox should open normally without looking for admin privileges. Give it a try!

If that doesn‘t fix it, you can also try temporarily enabling Run as Admin, hitting Apply, then disabling it again. This kind of "refreshes" the setting.

Fix #2: Reinstall Roblox Completely

If you just can‘t get rid of the error by tweaking the Run as Admin setting, more drastic measures may be required.

You‘ll want to completely uninstall and then reinstall Roblox:

  1. Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.
  2. Right click Roblox and select Uninstall.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Download and install Roblox again from roblox.com.
  5. When installing, do NOT opt to "Run as Administrator".
  6. Try launching Roblox again – the error should be gone!

Why does this work? Reinstalling can fix corrupted files or registry issues causing conflicts under the hood. It gives you a clean slate.

Just be sure that when reinstalling Roblox, you do NOT enable admin rights if not needed.

Fix #3: Use the Microsoft Store Version

As an alternative fix, you can avoid installing Roblox manually entirely…

Instead, get Roblox through the Microsoft Store!

The Microsoft Store handles the install process and permissions for you. So downloading Roblox from there avoids this whole admin issue.

To grab Roblox from the Microsoft Store:

  1. Open the Microsoft Store app.
  2. Search for "Roblox".
  3. Select Roblox and click Get.
  4. Once finished, launch Roblox normally from the Start menu.

No more pesky admin errors! The Microsoft Store carries other benefits too:

Pros of Microsoft Store Version:

  • No manual install required
  • Simplified updates
  • No admin access needed
  • Cleaner uninstall

Cons:

  • Larger file size
  • Can‘t modify game files

So weigh the pros and cons, but for most users, the Microsoft Store method is quick, easy, and avoids the admin problem altogether!

Prevent This Headache in the Future

Following best practices during Roblox installation and setup prevents this issue down the road:

  • Only use admin rights when truly needed for Roblox. Normal user permissions work fine in most cases.
  • When installing as admin, continue launching with admin rights consistently. Don‘t toggle back and forth.
  • Transferring Roblox between user accounts can cause permissions mismatches – do a clean reinstall instead.
  • Use the Microsoft Store version when possible for a simplified admin-free setup.

Sticking to these guidelines keeps your admin settings aligned and Roblox running smoothly.

Bonus: Resolving Other Common Roblox Errors

While the admin issue is notorious, you might run into other problems like:

  • Error code 262 – Fixed by restarting device/router. Indicates connection problems.
  • "Data send error" – Rejoin the game/server to resolve. Stem from internet instability.
  • Crashes or black screen – Update graphics drivers and disable overlays/antivirus while playing.
  • High ping times – Try a closer server region, reset router, use wired connection.
  • FPS drops – Lower quality settings, close other apps, upgrade computer hardware.

With any Roblox problems, I recommend checking Downdetector and Roblox Twitter – they often post updates on known issues.

I hope these troubleshooting tips help you get up and running again soon. Roblox is way more fun when you‘re actually playing rather than pulling your hair out over errors. Let me know if you have any other Roblox questions!
