How to "Restore Power to the Left Arm" in Genshin Impact

The sprawling open world of Teyvat holds countless secrets and challenges for travelers to uncover in Genshin Impact. The version 3.4 update ushers in an entirely new realm to explore – the Desert of Hadramaveth. Between sandstorms and snake-infested ruins, this desert hides mystical artifacts and testaments to fallen civilizations. The "Restore Power to the Left Arm" puzzle is one of the first tasks that will stretch your puzzling prowess to its limits in this desert domain.

In this comprehensive guide, we‘ll explore the lore behind the underground ruins, analyze new characters perfect for this challenge, and provide a complete walkthrough for restoring power to the left arm. With insider tips and illustrated references, you‘ll gain the insight and confidence to conquer this complex puzzle.

Legends of the Desert: A Historical Primer

Before delving underground, let‘s set the stage by examining what we know about this desert‘s ancient rulers and civilizations. Signs point to the desert having once been a thriving kingdom dedicated to the gods and afterlife.

As the story goes, five priest kings presided over the desert at a time when riverine civilizations flourished. Their names still echo through the ruins: King Deshret, the eternal monarch…King Hanut, the scarlet king…King Amur the cerulean wave rider…King Kahdeny the just and honorable…King Neferu the green liar. Each contributed to a legacy cut short by hubris and divine judgement.

Now all that remains of the once great capital are lifeless ruins half-buried in sand. But remnants of its former glory – artifacts, mechanisms, and mysteries – still call out to be rediscovered by modern travelers. As the Geo scholar Lisa narrates in one of her voiceovers:

"And so the years flow by, grain by grain, from the past into the present. All comes to naught, for naught lasts forever. Yet still we search for meaning in it all."

Your search for meaning starts with restoring power to an ancient machine known as the "Dune-Entombed Fecundity," buried deep under the capital ruins.

Who to Bring Along: New Playable Characters

Version 3.4 introduces two new characters specially suited for handling the desert domain‘s challenges: Alhaitham and Yaoyao. Let‘s analyze their abilities to understand why they can be valuable party members for the "Restore Power" puzzle.

Alhaitham

A 5-star swordsman hailing from Sumeru, Alhaitham boasts Dendro abilities that are very effective against the ruin machines. His Elemental Skill, Universality: An Elaboration on Form, deals AoE Dendro damage while also providing a shield via the Chisel-Light Mirror. Having a shield can be hugely helpful when navigating the traps and enemies in the underground ruins.

Meanwhile, his Burst imbues his normal attacks with Dendro and boosts his damage, energy generation, and resistance to interruption. Alhaitham‘s mastery of the Dendro element enables him to exploit the machines‘ weaknesses and handle the new threats lurking in the desert.

Yaoyao

This new 4-star polearm user also brings Dendro power to the table. Her Elemental Skill, Raphanus Sky Cluster, throws damaging White Jade Radishes that explode on impact. Additionally, she can enter a Charged Attack state that imbues her with the Dendro element.

Yaoyao‘s abilities lend themselves well to a quick swap playstyle. By switching frequently between characters, you can create Dendro elemental reactions like Quicken and Spread that are useful against ruin enemies. Her White Jade Radishes can also trigger the Bloom reaction for extra AoE damage.

Step-By-Step Walkthrough: Directing Power to the Left Arm

Now let‘s dive underground into the ancient ruins and work through restoring power step-by-step. Be sure to check that your Adventure Rank is at least 32 before attempting this puzzle.

Mapping the Underground Room

Upon entering the massive underground room housing the "Dune-Entombed Fecundity" machine, first get your bearings. Up some stairs behind you is the control room where you‘ll need to return later. For now, walk forward across the bridge to reach the main platform.

Underground room map

The giant machine has two visible arms – one on the left and right side – which each require power sources. Your goal is to direct energy to the left arm, indicated by an orange glow. Keep that left side in mind as you explore this sprawling room. There are also machines and tunnels in the southwest and northeast corners.

Retrieving the First Power Source

Walk across the bridge toward the main platform‘s center. There you‘ll see an orange diamond power source on the ground. Interact with it to pick it up.

Picking up first diamond

This diamond needs to be inserted into a machine to direct its power. Our first stop will be the machine tucked away in the southwest corner.

Activating the Southwest Machine

Still carrying that first orange diamond, walk over to the southwest corner across the rickety wooden platforms. You‘ll come across a small black machine with a diamond-shaped slot. Interact with it to insert the diamond.

Inserting the first diamond

A gust of energy will flow from the machine toward the left arm. One down, one more to go!

Collecting the Second Power Source

After placing the first diamond, make your way back up and out of the underground room. Exit through the northeast tunnel and loop around the giant statue outside to the right.

There you‘ll notice the second orange diamond. Pick it up – you know where this one needs to go!

Powering Up the Northeast Machine

Diamond in hand, return to the underground room through the northeast tunnel. Make your way to the machine in the northeast corner near the staircase. Interact with it to insert the second orange diamond into the slot.

Success! With both diamond power sources placed, energy will start flowing through the left arm. Two ancient power grids restored in one day – not too shabby, traveler!

Completing the Puzzle

With the left arm fully powered up, it‘s time to reap our rewards! Make your way back up the stairs to the control room. Interacting with the control panel will now allow you to activate the giant machine.

Doing so triggers a cutscene where the giant construct whirs to life. Its four massive arms move to shift the ruins above, opening up a sand-filled passageway. We can now venture deeper to uncover more of this domain‘s history and mysteries!

Restoring power here also unlocks access to two new Domains of Blessing:

  • Fane of Panjvahe – Obtain ascension materials for Alhaitham here
  • City of the Deceased – Farm ascension materials for Yaoyao here

So in addition to progressing the story, this puzzle grants access to some valuable new resources. Our early investment of time and brainpower looks to be paying off!

Additional Nearby Puzzles

While you‘re exploring the underground desert ruins, keep an eye out for several other puzzles tied to a quest called "The progress of time." Solving these helps unlock teleport waypoints and other upgrades.

Cедые ступени памяти

This puzzle tasks you with lighting up stone tablets around the main room. Step on the floor triggers to expose the tablets, then hit them with Dendro attacks to create Bloom reactions.

Зеленые знаки прошлого

Lighting up runes above certain doorways removes the strange fangs restricting access. Use Dendro abilities like Alhaitham‘s burst to expose and activate the runes.

Кристальные врата

To unlock this gate, you‘ll need to redirect beams of light using mirrors and prisms. Study the patterns on the wall for clues on where to aim the beams.

With preparation and perseverance, the desert‘s many puzzles are theirs for the solving!

Conclusion

And with that, dear traveler, you‘re equipped to take on the "Restore Power to the Left Arm" puzzle and restore functionality to the Dune-Entombed Fecundity. While navigating these ruins can get maze-like, just keep calm and look for diamond-shaped sockets.

The version 3.4 update brings a riveting new chapter filled with mechanical marvels, challenges to overcome, and history long forgotten. If ever you find your trail obscured, remember the light and power that originates from within. The desert awaits, mystic artifacts agleam!
