Can It Really Replace My Gaming Rig?

For mobile and casual gaming, the M2 Max MacBook Pro 16-inch delivers in spades. Even intensive modern AAA games can be enjoyed thanks to the raw power uptick over M1 generation hardware.

However, enthusiast gamers seeking uncompromised 4K 60+ FPS gaming with maxed out settings will remain better served by a custom gaming desktop with high wattage discrete graphics card. Additionally, heavy workloads risk aggressive thermal throttling over extended sessions.

As impressive as the benchmarks were, I will be holding onto my RTX 3090 rig for hardcore gaming. But for all other entertainment and productivity needs where macOS excels – this laptop is unmatched!

For developers and creatives lacking the time or interest in building custom machines, yet seeking excellent gaming capabilities alongside their professional work, the 2023 MacBook Pro 16-inch presents a mightily compelling option.
