Actual Game Performance – Struggles with Modern Titles
I tested over 50 top iOS games on the iPhone 8 Plus spanning various genres and graphics levels including:

Aside from raw performance metrics, today‘s mobile gamers demand excellent imaging capabilities for:

So how does the 8 Plus camera system stack up for portable gaming content creation?
Frankly…not great.
The dual 12MP cameras remain capable of shooting up to 4K video which exceeds streaming platform guidelines. But average low-light quality and lack of stabilization lead to subpar streams unless lighting is ideal. Forget about slow-motion either below 240 fps.
And good luck properly highlighting critical gaming feats when the 8 Plus misses focus, delivers grainy footage or lacks enough frames per second.
Modern phones like the iPhone 14 Pro handle all such tasks with aplomb thanks to vastly improved sensors, lenses and processing. So streamers and content creators beware – the 8 Plus shows its age here too.

With premium iOS titles easily exceeding 5+ GB these days (Genshin Impact alone requires ~15 GB!), the 64GB iPhone 8 Plus fills up mighty fast. Even the 256GB variant can‘t store more than 15-20 large titles.
Expect to constantly shuffle between games or rely on streaming services instead of directly downloading to hardware. Pretty inconvenient compared to 1 TB gaming phones nowadays.

One area iPhone devices continue excelling regardless of model is access to Apple‘s unmatched iOS gaming ecosystem. This includes:

Verdict – Skip the iPhone 8 Plus for Serious Gaming
To wrap up this review, can the iPhone 8 Plus still deliver a great mobile gaming experience in 2023?
Yes but only for light gaming needs like 2D indie titles, strategy games, or party gameplay. Support remains adequate enough here on the capable A11 system-on-chip.
But for enthusiasts desiring buttery smooth high FPS competitive play, gorgeous graphics in demanding 3D games, extensive future-proofing, excellent display recording or streaming capabilities – the severely outdated iPhone 8 Plus fails to make the cut.
Instead, stretch your budget to at least an iPhone 12 or ideally iPhone 14 series device. You want Apple‘s blazing fast A15 Bionic or A16 chip minimum alongside improved cameras/sensors that keep up with gaming trends rather than fight them!
Otherwise, resigned yourself to lackluster performance that will only degrade further as next-gen iOS games drive mobile visuals to uncompromising new heights.
So in closing, I simply cannot recommend purchasing an iPhone 8 Plus purely for intensive gaming purposes in 2023. The value proposition and experience dramatically lags budget Android rivals. Pay a little more upfront if mobile gaming matters!
