As someone who uses Discord daily to chat with gaming friends around the world or collaborate with coworkers, you may find yourself needing to manage more than one account on the platform.
When Multiple Discord Accounts Are Useful
With customizable usernames, chat channels, emoji reactions, and servers with tens of thousands of members, it‘s no wonder over 150 million people are now on Discord each month!
As a power Discord user, some scenarios where you might want multiple accounts include:
- Keeping separate identities across various gaming profiles and communities
- Maintaining personal and professional circles apart
- Roleplaying or writing fiction through alternate personas
- Testing apps or bots you‘re developing
The flexibility to have distinct accounts is great. But is switching between them smooth, especially when on mobile?
Limitations of Discord‘s Mobile App
Discord‘s desktop application makes managing multiple accounts a breeze. You can easily click on your profile icon at the bottom left of the app window to reveal an account switcher option.
However, this quick account toggle functionality is conspicuously absent from Discord‘s mobile app on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
Without the handy desktop switcher, accessing different Discord accounts on mobile can become an exercise in frustration. But there are still a couple straightforward workarounds…
Method #1: Log Out and Log Back In
Let‘s look at the basic approach first. While rather tedious, fully logging out and then logging back in does let you switch accounts on mobile.
Step 1. Tap Your Profile to Open the Menu
From anywhere in the Discord mobile app, tap on the circular profile icon at the bottom right corner of the screen to open your user menu.
Step 2. Find and Tap "Log Out"
Scroll down through the various options until you reach Log Out near the very bottom of the menu.
Make sure you don‘t accidentally leave any important Discord servers you admin!
Step 3. Confirm You Want to Log Out
After tapping Log Out, a popup will appear asking if you "really wanna leave?" Tap Log Out again here to confirm.
This will fully log you out and return to Discord‘s login page.
Discord asks you to confirm logging out
Step 4. Enter Login Details for Other Account
With the login screen displayed again, you can now simply enter the email address and password for whichever alternate account you want to switch to.
Finish by tapping the Login button below the password field. You‘ll then access that other account with all its servers, DMs, and settings separate from your first identity.
And that‘s really the entire process! Annoying? Yes. But at least possible. Now let‘s check out a superior approach…
Method #2: Use a Cloning App
Manually logging out and logging back in each time you want to switch accounts seems ridiculous in the year 2022.
Instead, take advantage of mobile OS functionality to clone apps like Discord. This allows you to be simultaneously logged into two separate accounts on the same device. Much easier!
We‘ll demonstrate on Android using an app called Dual Space. But similar options exist for iPhone/iOS as well.
Step 1. Download and Install Dual Space
Open the Play Store on your Android device, search for "Dual Space" and tap Install. This clones apps into multiple copies.
According to Dual Space‘s privacy policy, user data is kept safe and not accessed.
Step 2. Accept the Access Requests
Once installed, open Dual Space from your homescreen. You‘ll need to accept the various terms and access requests for cloning ability.
The prompts may vary depending on your Android version. Allow what is asked.
Step 3. Tap "Add App" and Select Discord
On Dual Space‘s main screen, tap the Add app here button. Find Discord from the list and tap it to register the app.
Dual Space will now clone Discord into two instances!
Step 4. Launch Cloned Discord to Login
With Discord now cloned, tap its icon within Dual Space to launch a separate copy in which you can log into your second account!
Awesome! No need to constantly re-authenticate anymore. Just tap the respective Discord icon to quickly switch accounts.
Key Takeaways
- Logging out and back in lets you access different Discord accounts
- Using a cloning app like Dual Space is faster as both accounts run simultaneously
- Clone Discord via Dual Space to avoid constantly re-entering credentials
Now you know a couple easy ways to switch between your gaming, personal and professional identities in Discord while on Android or iPhone. Engage in fan communities and collaborate with team members without compromise by managing all your accounts with ease on mobile!
