How to Find and Extract the Hard Drive Near the Crash Site in Warzone 2 DMZ

Welcome to the foggy shores of Ashika Island – the new hotspot for infiltration and intel in Call of Duty: Warzone 2‘s gritty DMZ mode. As a seasoned DMZ operator, I‘m here to walk you through locating and securing a pivotal hard drive from a plane crash site on the island.

Understanding DMZ Mode

For those new to DMZ, here‘s a quick primer: DMZ is an open-world multiplayer extraction mode where you take on missions, collect intel, loot equipment, and battle occupying enemy forces across massive maps.

There‘s a deep narrative woven throughout DMZ told through Intel missions like this one. With the help of the community, we‘ve pieced together that your overall goal is to gather intel on the Al-Qatala separatist group and their nuclear arsenal.

DMZ matches involve tense cat-and-mouse gameplay. You‘ll need to master situational awareness, tactical positioning, stealth, and gunplay to survive. It‘s best to go in with a trusted squad and loadouts tailored to your playstyle.

Now let‘s dive into the steps for securing this valuable hard drive!

Overview of Finding and Extracting the Hard Drive

Here are the key steps we’ll cover:

  • Locate the crash site – Travel to the specific location on Ashika Island
  • Find and extract the hard drive – Search the wreckage and extract the intel
  • Deposit the hard drive – On a new match, place the drive into a hidden dead drop

The Story So Far…

Before we begin, let‘s recap the events leading up to this hard drive:

Based on trailers and developer posts:

Your squad is investigating rumors of Al-Qatala transporting nuclear materials to Ashika Island. Upon infiltration, you discover a suspicious plane crash requiring further investigation. Securing the contents of the downed aircraft could uncover Al-Qatala‘s true motives in the region.

Step 1 – Locate the Crash Site

The plane wreckage is found along the southern coast of Ashika Island at coordinate E6.

Approach this area extremely cautiously. The island‘s heavy fog and rocky terrain provides ample hiding spots for Shadow Company forces. I recommend going at night and using suppressed weapons to maintain the element of surprise.

Once you reach the promontory overlooking the sea, you‘ll spot the billowing smoke from the crash site below.

Rappel down carefully while scanning for hostiles. The swirling fog can make it nearly impossible to see enemies until you‘re right on top of them. Listen closely for footsteps or chatter.

Having a coordinated squad provide overwatch and call-outs is invaluable here. Designate roles like reconnaissance and sniper support before insertion.

Step 2 – Find and Extract the Hard Drive

Now comes the fun part – scouring the wreckage for the hard drive.

Search every inch of the plane, inside and out. Check corpses, open suitcases, and scan the environment for hiding spots.

Ultimately you‘ll find a damaged laptop or computer component, as shown below:

Hard Drive Component

Interact with the device to stow the Ashika Island security hard drive and add it to your inventory.

This sensitive intel is your ticket off the island, but first you‘ll need to successfully exfil.

Extracting the Hard Drive

With the hard drive secured, it‘s time to get to extraction.

Ashika Island offers several potential exfil sites like the Port, Town Square, and Beach. I prefer the Beach extraction for its open sight lines and multiple escape routes.

Access your Tac Map to call for exfil once you‘ve safely disengaged from any contacts. Defend your position from incoming Shadow Company forces until the helicopter arrives.

If things get dicey, don‘t be afraid to exfil by sea! The new inflatable kayaks provide a stealthy escape option when you‘re surrounded.

Successfully extracting the hard drive allows you to move onto the next step…

Step 3 – Deposit the Hard Drive

On your next match, infiltrate Ashika Island again bringing the extracted hard drive.

Your goal is reaching a hidden dead drop to securely hand over the intel. This will provide access to details on Al-Qatala‘s regional operations.

The dead drop is located within a small cave outbuilding at coordinate F6, not far from Tsuki Castle.

Dead Drop Map Location

Approach Tsuki Castle from the west to avoid confronting forces at the main gate. Move through the trees and use the castle walls for cover.

Enter the small wooden structure and go downstairs into the cave opening. Follow the path right, riding the zipline further down.

At the end you‘ll find the dead drop – an inconspicuous white dumpster. Interact with it to deposit the hard drive, then close the lid to complete the hand-off.

With the drive delivered, you‘ve now gained access to pivotal intel for uncovering Al-Qatala‘s nuclear ambitions on Ashika Island. Nicely done!

Additional Tips for Success

Here are some final tips for safely completing this mission based on my DMZ experience:

  • Pack plenty of armor plates and ammo – firefights are inevitable

  • Bring a heartbeat sensor to monitor for hostiles through walls

  • Use cold-blooded perk to avoid AI-controlled heavy gunners

  • Communicate enemy locations continuously to avoid ambushes

  • Don‘t shy away from camping a strong position – survival comes first!

  • Quickly treat injuries and refresh armors plates post-fight

  • Keep moving during exfil to avoid grenades and snipers

With preparation and vigilance, you‘ll be able to locate the plane wreckage, extract the hidden hard drive, and securely deliver it to advance the DMZ narrative. The secrets hidden in this intel should bring us one step closer to stopping Al-Qatala‘s nuclear plans.
