How to Evolve Scyther into Scizor in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Evolving Pokémon has been a core mechanic ever since the first Pokémon games on Game Boy. And few evolution methods capture thefeeling of growth better than trade evolutions.

By trading away certain species like Haunter, Machoke or Scyther while they hold special items, they can transform into often vastly improved forms.

One of the most popular examples is turning the mantis-like Scyther into Scizor upon trading with a Metal Coat equipped. This powerful Bug/Steel-type has been a competitive force for decades thanks to formidable abilities, movesets and typing.

As a long-time Pokémon battler and scarlet Violet expert, I‘ve had great success utilizing Scizor’s Technician boosted priority moves and wide coverage to check numerous top threats. Once you understand how to obtain metal coats and have a trade partner lined up, adding this crimson terror to your own team is extremely rewarding.

This guide will walk you through everything required to evolve Scyther yourself, along with my personal advice for unleashing Scizor‘s full potential during battles.

Why Evolve Scyther into Scizor?

Before we get to the trade evolution process itself, let‘s examine why you should even evolve your Scyther in the first place:

  • Substantial Stat Increases: Scizor packs a top-tier stat spread of 500 total, with huge 110 Defense and 130 Attack allowing it to boost damage while shrugging off blows.

  • Welcome Steel Typing: The Steel type paired with Bug gives key resistances to 10 different move types, significantly bolstering staying power.

  • Better Moves: Scizor’s movepool includes potent STAB Technician-boosted attacks like Bullet Punch and Pursuit that Scyther lacks access to.

  • Unique Design: The crimson body with giant pincers draws inspiration from Japanese kabutomushi beetles, contrasting wonderfully against Scyther’s green mantis theming.

Evolving Scyther checks off every box – more power, durability, coverage options, and visual flair. Now let‘s break down exactly how to make that evolution happen.

Items Needed to Evolve Scyther into Scizor

Trading alone isn‘t enough to trigger Scyther‘s evolution. To evolve, it must be holding a special item – the Metal Coat.

Metal Coats can be purchased from Delibird‘s Presents stores found in various cities around Paldea for 3,000 Poké Dollars. I‘ve highlighted every location carrying them on the map below:

With Metal Coats in very limited supply, I recommend purchasing as many as possible when spotted if you plan on getting multiple Scizor.

Now that we understand where to buy this essential evolution item, let‘s walk through the full Scyther-to-Scizor process.

Step-by-Step Guide to Evolving Scyther into Scizor

Follow these steps precisely and you‘ll have yourself a Scizor in no time:

1. Purchase Metal Coat

Visit any Delibird‘s Presents store shown on the map above and purchase a Metal Coat for 3,000 Poké Dollars.

2. Give Scyther the Metal Coat

Enter your Scyther‘s Summary page and select "Give Item", then choose the Metal Coat from your Bag. This will make Scyther hold it.

3. Initiate Link Trade

Open your menu, select "Poké Portal", then "Link Trade" to connect with another local player wirelessly.

4. Trade Away Scyther

Choose the Metal Coat-equipped Scyther and offer it to the other player to complete the Trade.

Upon the Trade‘s completion, your Scyther will evolve into Scizor! Then just wrap up the rest of the trade.

And that‘s all it takes to add this absolute powerhouse to your Scarlet/Violet battle team. Quite straightforward, yes?

Now let‘s get into some key pointers for taking your newly evolved Scizor and start unleashing its true potential against opponents.

Unleashing Scizor‘s Power in Battle

With preparation and the right supporting cast, Scizor can sweep unprepared teams with priority moves backed by its colossal 130 Attack stat. Here‘s exactly how I utilize it effectively:

  • Give it a Jolly nature to maximize Speed
  • Make sure to acquire Bullet Punch TM
  • Surround it with special attackers Scizor handles threats for
  • Watch out for Fire attacks!

And for held items, Choice Band is ideal for blasting teams and predicting switches while Leftovers improves longevity.

By keeping Scizor away from its Fire weakness, it provides that critical Steel resistances and priority wallbreaking physical teams desperately need in Scarlet/Violet‘s meta. And the set below demonstrates just one way to leverage its fantastic attributes:

See why you want a Scizor on your side now? And evolving Scyther into this absolute unit has never been smoother.

So purchase those Metal Coats, set up a quick Link Trade, and let your shiny new Scizor start mowing down opponents soon! This process helped evolve one of my strongest Paldea partners – may it do the same for your team!
