Step-by-Step Guide to "Enter Khaj-Nisut" in Genshin Impact

As an avid Genshin Impact player and content creator myself, I was ecstatic when HoYoverse announced that Version 3.1 would allow us to finally enter the imposing structure known as Khaj-Nisut. Ever since first spotting this Sunken City-esque location on the horizon back in 3.0, I‘ve been yearning to learn its secrets.

Khaj-Nisut‘s debut kicks off Chapter III, Act I of the Sumeru Archon Questline, taking travelers deeper into the lore behind Rukkhadevata and the withering of the Irminsul. The stakes feel higher, the foes stronger, and the environments richer – in short, HoYoverse delivered in providing an engaging next chapter for us to explore.

However, given its pivotal role in the main storyline, accessing Khaj-Nisut is appropriately gated behind completing key prerequisites…

Gaining Access to Khaj-Nisut

Before the “Enter Khaj-Nisut” quest becomes visible under Archon Quests, you first need to fulfill these requirements:

  • Adventure Rank 40 or above – This content is tuned for more seasoned travelers, as enemies exceed Lvl 90. I’d recommend Level 80+ characters with Level 90 weapons.
  • Finish the Prologue, Chapters I – II, and “Interlude” Chapter – Storywise, these establish plot points that tie into Sumeru‘s lore.
  • Start “Golden Slumber” World Quest – This unlocks upon reaching Sumeru reputation Lvl 2 and kicks off the Aranyaka quest chain, which aligns with Sumeru‘s Archon Quest storyline.

Based on fan theories about Khaj-Nisut‘s possible connections to the ancient gods, these prerequisites ensure you‘ve witnessed the relevant backdrop to fully appreciate the revelations within this Sunken City.

Step 1: Teleport to the Land of Lower Setekh

Once you’ve checked all three requirement boxes, open your map and fast travel to the Statue of Seven waypoint labeled “Land of Lower Setekh.”

Quick Tip!
This area‘s filled with Elite-ranked Vileblood Conscript enemies around Level 95+, so I‘d prep your best combat roster before entering!

After the teleportation sequence, walk north and descend the stone ramps until you reach…

Step 2: Activate the Derelict Machine

Amidst the Vileblood ruins stands an inactive Derelict Machine, the first of many we‘ll encounter in this questline. Interact with it to trigger a short cutscene, causing the electrical doors ahead to retract open…

Deeper Implications of This Ancient Technology

As seasoned Genshin lore enthusiasts may notice, these sleek mechanical constructs share similarities with designs seen in Enkanomiya and the Chasm‘s underground sections. I wouldn‘t be surprised if Celestia or the founders of Khaenri‘ah had a hand in Khaj-Nisut‘s development.

Perhaps they tapped into long-lost magics from a bygone era? Maybe this structure egregiously defies Heaven‘s Principles as the Abyss Order‘s base once did? These machines could support fan theories of Khaj-Nisut‘s connections to Phanes, or to that mysterious half-buried city spotted from Sumeru‘s mountains.

Either way, I‘m confident they serve a larger purpose than simply opening Khaj-Nisut doors…
