How to Do "Desert Vivarium" in Genshin Impact

The recent "King Deshret and the Three Magi" update for Genshin Impact introduced an intriguing new quest called "Desert Vivarium"—a mysterious Dendro-powered oasis hidden deep in Sumeru‘s deserts. In this comprehensive guide, we‘ll equip you with everything you need to take on the challenges within this quest and reap all of its epic rewards.

Unlocking the Gateways to Desert Vivarium

The first step in accessing Desert Vivarium is meeting the minimum Adventure Rank requirement of 40 to unlock its linked Domain, known as "Garden of Endless Pillars."

At AR 40, roughly 95 hours of gameplay will be under your belt. You‘ll have built up a roster of powerful characters, forged high-level weapons and artifacts, and mastered elemental reactions like Vaporize, Melt, Swirl, and more. Now you can leverage those efforts to take on an intermediate-level challenge in Sumeru.

Once unlocked, the Gardens of Endless Pillar serve as the entry point and first layer of Desert Vivarium‘s trial. Here you must defeat a series of standard Hilichurl, Fungi, and Dendro Samachurl enemies to open the gateway to the oasis challenge itself.

With the domain cleared out, a towering pillar rises from a Dendro Sigil at the back. Hitting the plant growth on top with a Charged Attack bow shot triggers Four Leaf Sigil platforms to emerge around the room.

Completing the Core Challenge

Activating all Four Leaf Sigils elevates you upwards, allowing access to interact with the central pillar. This instantly transports you into a glimmering oasis and begins the core challenge:

Collect 14 Dendro Particles Within 40 Seconds

Meeting this timed objective is the key to finishing Desert Vivarium and claiming the coveted Precious Chest at the end.

Dendro Particles spawn around the oasis, hovering above platforms and bodies of water requiring nimble navigation to collect. Equipping an Anemo character like Venti or Kazuha will greatly help grouping the particles using their Elemental Skills and Bursts.

Stacking movement speed, stamina reduction, and anemo resistance potion buffs can further aid the rapid collection across platforms. Shields and healing also help defensively since enemies still spawn to impede your progress.

With 14 particles gathered before the timer expires, a Common Chest spawns containing useful Ascension Materials, Mora, and Hero‘s Wits. But the journey is not over yet!

Unraveling the Final Mysteries

Behind the Common Chest lies a strange Rare Blue Plant. Interacting with it extends crystalline bridges deeper into the glittering oasis, with a Precious Chest waiting at the end!

But first you must traverse a twisting passage of moving platforms and bouncy mushrooms, fending off Elite Dendro and Hydro Mimics along the way.

Bringing a powerful main DPS like Yoimiya or Cyno helps burst down these tricky foes. Their mobility also shines for leaping across the winding oasis trails.

One last group of Floral Churls and Fungi stand guard before the final platform holding the Precious Chest. Defeat them to claim your hard-earned prizes.

Analyzing Precious & Common Chest Rewards

The Precious Chest yields several valuable items including:

  • Instructor‘s Pocket Watch (5-Star Artifact)
  • Various Ascension Gems (Agate, Amethyst, etc.)
  • 18,000+ Mora

With a 15-18% drop rate for 5-Star Artifacts, the chances of receiving powerful Wanderer‘s Troupe pieces or Instructor‘s make clearing Desert Vivarium worthwhile.

The Common Chest also provides useful Fungal Spores, Hero‘s Wits, and Teachings of Praxis as supplemental rewards.

Beyond material prizes, completing Desert Vivarium unlocks the next major Archon Quest chapter to drive Sumeru‘s story forward in compelling ways.

Mastering Dendro Elemental Reactions

As a Dendro-focused challenge, you must have a solid grasp of Dendro elemental reactions to overcome Desert Vivarium‘s obstacles:

Bloom – Dendro + Hydro causes seed pods to spawn after some time. Hitting them triggers Bloom explosions.
Spread – Triggers larger secondary Bloom if the first Bloom explodes via Pyro damage.
Aggravate – Dendro + Electro boosts Electro damage significantly.

Well-built Electro and Pyro characters like Fischl, Xiangling, and Bennett will amplify Dendro Cores created from Burgeon and Hyperbloom reactions.

Understanding these new reactions introduced in Version 3.1 adds more depth to defeating the array of Dendro and Hydro enemies in this quest.

Summary – Keys to Conquering the Vivarium

In summary, here are the key tips to remember when undertaking Desert Vivarium:

  • Meet Adventure Rank 40 first to unlock the entry Domain
  • Bring Anemo supports to swiftly gather 14 Dendro Particles
  • Equip movement/stamina food buffs to traverse the oasis faster
  • Leverage Dendro reactions (Bloom, Spread, Aggravate) against enemies
  • Prep your best single-target DPS character to defeat the Mimics/Churls
