In this comprehensive guide, you‘ll learn:

  • Step-by-step how to change servers on mobile and PC

  • And more tips from a ToF veteran!

Let‘s get started with the full walkthrough…

Step-By-Step: How to Change Tower of Fantasy Servers

Switching servers is easy once you know the steps. Here is exactly how to do it properly:

On Mobile

Pull out your smartphone and launch the Tower of Fantasy app. Log into your account as normal and tap on the server name at the top of the screen:

This opens the full list of available servers. Browse all the options – you may see some labeled Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe. As of writing there are ~16 global servers.

Tap on your new desired server. For example, if you started on Europe and want to move to Asia-Pacific, select that one.

Then confirm your selection by tapping anywhere on the screen. This will initiate connecting to that server.

However…

If you are currently logged into an account, you MUST fully log out of that account first before switching servers. To do so:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap Account
  3. Choose Switch Account
  4. Confirm Log Out when prompted

This logs you out completely back the main screen. THEN you can repeat the steps above to open server selection and choose your new server.

On PC

For desktop, launch the Tower of Fantasy client on Windows or Mac. Log into whichever account you want to switch servers for.

In the upper left corner, click directly on the server name. Just like on mobile, this opens the list of all available regions:

Browse the server list and select whichever one you want to change to. Confirm by clicking anywhere on the screen.

Same as mobile, if you‘re already logged into an account, log all the way out first via Settings > Account > Log Out. Then follow the steps again to pick a new server and login freshly.

And boom! That‘s it. Whether playing ToF on your phone or computer, the process remains mostly the same…

Choosing the Right Server

When deciding which Tower of Fantasy server to switch to, check the status indicator next to each. What do these mean?

Server Status Key:

  • Maintenance: Server offline for maintenance/updates
  • Smooth: Recommended – Low population, no queues
  • Hot: Medium/High population with some delays
  • Queue: Extremely high population with login queues

I always advise picking a "Smooth" server when available for the best experience. These have capacity for more players, so you skip login waits and in-game delays.

"Hot" servers have longer load times. And "Queue" means you literally wait in line for your turn to play during peak times.

For example, one "Queue" server may display "Queue: 4321" – indication 4000+ players are ahead of you! At 5-10 mins per person, that could be hours of waiting…

Here‘s a peek at real-time server populations over a weekday:

Notice how the densities fluctuate by region and time-of-day due to normal online cycles.

If you‘re still undecided between servers, check their language preference and communities too. Some cater towards English, Chinese, Korean, and so on playerbases.

Ultimately choose the one with ideal status, language, and population for your personal preferences!

What About My Game Progress & Data?

Now for the bad news…

When switching Tower of Fantasy servers, none of your game progress carries over! Nada…

That means saying bye to:

  • Your characters, weapons, equipment
  • Exploration and map discovery
  • Inventory items, materials, currencies
  • Crew membership, housing
  • Friends list connections 🙁

So why doesn‘t any data transfer over?

It comes down to how player info is structured on Tower of Fantasy‘s backend architecture per server. Each regional server acts as a self-contained "bubble" with no bridges across accounts.

For example:

  • Asia Server = own isolated bubble
  • Europe Server = own separate bubble

Your account on Asia does not cross over whatsoever into Europe and vice versa. No transfers allowed!

However, there are 2 scenarios where your progress persists after switching:

  1. Choosing a brand new server for the first time. All existing data stays locked within previous servers.

  2. Returning to a server you originally played on. As long as you properly linked your account + data during account creation, your characters should still be waiting for you on returning servers!

I constantly alternate between the same 2-3 servers myself, and have had no issues resuming my profiles each time.

To check servers where you have existing progress, tap "Characters Owned" during selection. This displays all associated accounts across historic servers tied to your login credentials. Pretty neat!

Now what if your friends or crew members are on a totally different regional server that you want to join? Let‘s address that next…

Playing Cross-Region: Is It Possible with Friends?

If you and your party are divided across geographical Tower of Fantasy servers, here is the hard truth:

You cannot play together or team up for co-op cross-region.

Being on the exact same server is mandatory for all multiplayer aspects like:

  • Forming and joining crews
  • Visiting friends‘ housing
  • Matchmaking into bygone phantasm
  • Entering another player‘s open world

Essentially you‘ll each be playing parallel solo instances, unable to interact in-game. Lame, I know!

The only way around this is getting everyone to create new accounts on the same unified server.

So check where your friends are playing early, and coordinate joining the same region from the start!

The plus side is your account can stretch across multiple servers with independent progress on each. I have main profiles across NA, Asia, and Europe servers to play with all my different friend circles.

5 Pros of Switching Tower of Fantasy Servers

Deciding whether or not to change servers depends greatly on your situation.

But generally speaking, here are 5 advantages of doing so:

1. Reduced Queues and Faster Login

If you started on an uber-dense launch server, changing to a lower pop one alleviates awful queue times.

2. Join Friends on Specific Servers

As mentioned earlier, this is mandatory for playing together in-game.

3. Better Ping and Performance

Servers closer to your IRL location yield much better latency and gameplay responsiveness. This matters a lot in high-level co-op content like frontier clash!

4. Fresh Start to Re-Experience Early Game

Beginning anew unlocks the joy discovering everything for the first time again.

5. Main Multiple Accounts Across Regions

Having different rosters across NA and Asia lets you play casually among various friend circles.

……Or stick where you are to continue building up established characters! Evaluate based on your own priorities.

Troubleshooting Server Connections

Lastly, if you run into technical problems joining a new server, here are some things to try:

Can‘t Select Server

  • Fully log out and log back in
  • Restart game client
  • Ensure game updated to latest version

Infinite Loading Screen

  • Force close game and relaunch
  • Clear cache/data for app
  • Check internet connection
  • Server could still be updating (maintenance)
