Burning Cliffs – Muspelheim‘s Fiery Arena
Before we can claim our prize, we must conquer the challenge of this chest‘s location: the Burning Cliffs region of Muspelheim. This fiery realm serves as an optional arena that pushes combat skills against waves of dangerous foes.
Molten lava flows between sheer black rock faces and platforms suspended over the magma. One misstep sends Kratos plummeting to a fiery grave. Flame Phantoms, Nightmares, and blazing Revenant undead stalk the cliffs, leaving little safe ground.
You must complete a series of arena challenges to unlock Muspelheim. But the time investment is well worth it – Muspelheim‘sTrials of the Muspelheim reward rare crafting materials and high-level equipment to boost Kratos‘s power.
Within the Burning Cliffs specifically, the most direct routes often pass dangerously close to lava flows or clusters of enemies. Expect to face slow, deliberate platforming across treacherous terrain. Combat encounters become tricky with enemies attacking from multiple angles and limited space to maneuver.

Step 1 – Locating the Hidden Chest
I’ll guide you step-by-step through reaching the chest location. Start from the Mystic Gateway entrance to Burning Cliffs in southeast Muspelheim. Exit through the glowing gateway and take the path branching to the right.
Follow this route past an inactive Mystic Gateway and up to a lava fall pouring from the cliff above. Stop once you reach the lava fall – you should see a narrow gap in the left cliff face.

Crawl through this gap, then shimmy across the wall underneath the lava flow. Watch your positioning to avoid dropping into the molten rock! Once across, continue descending down the cliff path.
Eventually you’ll emerge at an open platform with the ornate Nornir chest dead ahead. Three large runes are etched into the surrounding cliffs – your objective is lighting them all to unlock the chest.
Step 2 – Lighting the “N” Rune
A torch sits unlit atop the platform with the N rune. Use your Blades of Chaos to ignite it, lighting the rune. Easy enough so far!
The Blades of Chaos and Leviathan Axe both excel at interacting with environmental objects. I prefer using the Blades for their excellent precision and extended range when manipulating objects like this. Plus, their fiery nature feels thematically appropriate in Muspelheim!
Step 3 – Illuminating the “C” Rune
To shed light on the C rune, look upwards and to the right from the chest. You should spot an unlit torch on the neighboring platform. How can we ignite it from a distance?
The answer lies in Atreus’s Hex Arrows. Fire a Hex Arrow at the small patch of stone between the platforms to create a Hex Bubble. Shoot the bubble to enlarge it, spanning the gap. Repeat this to make a chain of enlarged Hex Bubbles linking to the platform with the C rune.

Once your chain is complete, detonate it with the Blades of Chaos to carry the flames to the torch. The C rune will shine, synchronized with the N rune.
This puzzle makes brilliant use of Hex Bubbles to manipulate objects at a distance. The enlarged bubbles let you bridge gaps that Kratos and Atreus couldn’t cross themselves.
Step 4 – Relaying Fire to the “R” Rune
For the final rune, start back at the Nornir chest and locate the two idle torches on either side. We need to light the right torch to activate the R rune. But neither is within range of the lit C rune…time for more long-range flames!
Construct two enlarged Hex Bubbles between the two torches. Once they’re stable, shoot a standard Hex Bubble at the already lit C rune torch. If done properly, igniting the chain will relay the fire from C to R, lighting up the last rune.

The fire spreads quickly, so you must work fast. But with care, you can link between all three points to complete the puzzle.
Claiming the Burning Cliffs Reward
When all three runes shine, the Nornir chest will lower its magical seals and open, revealing the prize inside: a gleaming Idunn Apple!
These golden apples immediately increase Kratos’s maximum health, granting extra survivability against the Nine Realms’ deadliest foes. Idunn Apples are among the most valuable chest rewards in God of War Ragnarök. With the Burning Cliffs chest finally unlocked, Kratos can claim this coveted boost.
